It’s Time to Protect What You’ve Got

I truly hate to report this, but we’ve got another cyberattack to deal with, this time against our meat industry.

JBS USA, the American branch of JBS SA – the world’s largest meat producer – had to shut down all nine of its beef plants after what it calls an “organized cybersecurity attack” on its computer systems yesterday.

And this at a time when Yahoo Finance reports what so many of us already knew:

“The manufacturing sector continues to boom. Even as supply can’t come close to meeting present demand.”

CEO Andre Nogueira issued this statement about JBS USA:

“We have cybersecurity plans in place to address these types of issues, and we are successfully executing those plans. Given the progress our IT professions and plant teams have made in the last 24 hours, the vast majority of our beef, pork, poultry, and prepared foods plants will be operational [Wednesday].”

Already, they’ve made “significant progress,” he said, which sounds reassuring. Then again, Colonial Pipeline said it had everything under control last month and look at what a debacle that turned out to be.

Speaking of pipelines, the Biden administration suspended oil and gas drilling leases in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Some are calling it a “temporary hold,” but White House National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy said it’s “an important step forward” in keeping presidential promises.

Meanwhile, the worker shortage continues, leading to a rise in robots and digitization. As such, when blue-collar and low-wage employees are ready to return to work… there will be far less of it available.

The World According to REITs

In short, now’s not the time to be foolish with your money.

Resurging “meme stocks” like AMC (AMC) may look majorly tempting at the moment. But I’m personally sticking with my iREIT on Alpha picks like the list of monthly paying real estate investment trusts (REITs) I recommend.

Moving on to our daily update trio, here are just a few things you might want to know about. They’re even positive developments to break up the negatives we’re seeing elsewhere:

Iron Mountain (IRM) will expand its data center footprint with a new 27 megawatt full-build facility in the larger London area.
Acadia Realty Trust (AKR) provided an update that its core leasing pipeline is up over $12 million now. It’s also collected 94% of its April and May 2021 core billings as of May 25.
QTS Realty Trust (QTS) debuted its new Smart Family of data center remote management solutions. Built on the back of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), it aims to enable real-time visibility and access into customers’ colocation environments.
